Celebrating Leadership in Ohio State Philanthropy
The Ohio State University recently recognized four exceptional supporters—Kara J. Trott, Keith D. Monda, Veronica B. Brady, and G. Gilbert “Gil” Cloyd—for their significant contributions to philanthropy and volunteerism. These honors highlight their commitment to student success, research advancement, healthcare, and strengthening the Ohio State community.
Honoring Kara J. Trott: John B. Gerlach Sr. Development Volunteer Award
Kara J. Trott, an alumna of Ohio State’s Moritz College of Law, received the John B. Gerlach Sr. Development Volunteer Award. This award is given to individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership, commitment, and personal investment in university fundraising efforts. Trott is the founder and board chair of Quantum Health, a company focused on improving navigation and outcomes in the healthcare system for employers, patients, and families.
Through her philanthropy, Trott has established endowed faculty positions in law, architecture, and psychiatry at Ohio State. Her support also extends to initiatives in immigration advocacy, trauma resilience, and mental healthcare. In addition, she contributes her expertise to Ohio State’s highest governing and advisory boards and currently serves on the university’s Board of Trustees.
Keith D. Monda and Veronica B. Brady: Everett D. Reese Medal Recipients
Keith D. Monda and Veronica B. Brady were among those awarded the Everett D. Reese Medal, the university’s top honor for exceptional service in private philanthropy. Their contributions have made a lasting impact on campus through a variety of initiatives and resources, notably founding the Monda Student Resource Center.
The Monda Student Resource Center gives students access to food, housing, clothing, emergency financial assistance, and mental health services. Monda and Brady have also helped nearly 800 students participate in international learning experiences, enriching their global perspectives and leadership skills. Their generosity has supported campus public art such as John Henry’s Borealis, as well as scholarships and an endowed faculty position.
Monda, a two-time Ohio State economics graduate and the retired president and COO of Coach, Inc., has dedicated much of his post-corporate career to education philanthropy, hunger relief, and improving the well-being of children and families.
G. Gilbert “Gil” Cloyd: Decades of Dedication
G. Gilbert “Gil” Cloyd, a first-generation college graduate of Ohio State’s College of Veterinary Medicine (class of 1969), also received the Everett D. Reese Medal. After a distinguished tenure as chief technology officer for Procter & Gamble, Cloyd and his late wife, Susan, supported scholarships for veterinary students and the Scarlet and Gray Advantage program.
Cloyd has been a champion of Ohio State Lima, helping finance renovations to Galvin Hall and expanding educational access to the region. His commitment reinforces the university’s belief in educational opportunity for all.
Impact on Students, Research, and Community
According to President Ravi V. Bellamkonda, the honorees “embody the Buckeye ethos of paying forward to future generations,” having expanded opportunities for students, advanced discovery, supported health, and inspired others to give. Their actions exemplify the Buckeye values of leadership, service, and generosity, impacting student resources and community well-being across Ohio and beyond.
A Lasting Legacy
Michael C. Eicher, senior vice president for external affairs and president of The Ohio State University Foundation, praised the awardees, noting how their generosity demonstrates what it means to answer the call when communities are in need. Through university fundraising, philanthropic gifts, and hands-on involvement, Trott, Monda, Brady, and Cloyd have created a legacy of meaningful community impact, expanding student support and advancing Ohio State’s mission for future generations.
