Stranger Things Season 5 Brings Linda Hamilton Into the Fight
Netflix dropped a new extended teaser for Season 5 of Stranger Things. The final season is set to premiere late this year, and the latest preview has given fans a brief but tantalizing look at the epic Hawkins vs Upside Down showdown.
The video, a little more than a minute in length, wastes no time ramping up the drama. Shots of the Upside Down spreading into Hawkins, demo-dogs stalking Hawkins in the dark, a few big moments of action, and some signature Stranger Things humor are packed into a trailer that is as scary as it is exciting.
A notable addition to the fight is Linda Hamilton. Fans have already seen Linda in the final episode of Season 4, but the teaser shows her arming up and arriving on the scene prepared for war.
Season 4 ended with Vecna, a tall, hooded figure and the puppet master behind all the season’s terrors, ripping open a giant portal. This action caused the Upside Down to start spilling into Hawkins in earnest. This new season, we learn, will begin after the Hawkins crew has gained control over the threat. Set in the fall of 1987, Season 5 will mark the third anniversary of Will Byers’ disappearance and the beginning of the entire series in Season 1.
The final season will be eight episodes long, but not in the way you might think. Each episode will be feature-length, which means fans will be treated to eight full Stranger Things movies.
The official synopsis sets the stage for a climax that is both action-packed and heavy on emotions. Hawkins will have changed forever due to the Rift’s opening. The Hawkins group of old and new, such as the Byers, Dustin, Steve, Nancy, Joyce, Murray, Max, Robin, Lucas, Erica, Eleven, Max, D’Arcy, and others, is all driven by one primary objective: to find and kill Vecna. But how to accomplish that is anyone’s guess, as his location is a mystery and his motives are unknown. The U.S. military has imposed a quarantine on Hawkins and is also redoubling its search for Eleven. She will have to go on the run again as her powers make her a high-value target.
For Hawkins and the group of heroes, the countdown is on. The third anniversary of Will Byers’ disappearance is fast approaching. As the teaser shows, the clock is ticking on the final battle. The final stand for Hawkins is almost upon them, and this time, they are up against a darker and more powerful foe than ever. The only hope is for every ally to get together and show up for one last fight.
Main Cast Returns with Several Key Recurring Characters
Fans will get to see a mix of favorites from past seasons, several key returning characters, and a few new faces in Season 5. Amybeth McNulty will reprise her role as Vicki, and Gabriella Pizzolo returns as Dustin’s girlfriend, Suzie. Jamie Campbell Bower will also return as the evil Vecna.
A few notable new faces include Linda Hamilton, who will join the cast as Dr. Kay. Linda is best known for playing Sarah Connor in the Terminator films. Stranger Things 5 will also feature Nell Fisher as Holly Wheeler, Jake Connelly as Derek Turnbow, and Alex Breaux as Lt. Akers.
Season 5 is stuffed with cool moments that are both exciting and nostalgic. In one section of the trailer, Lucas and others are seen hiding from demo-dogs, including in an office building, while others create distractions in a sequence that is a clear reference to the classic velociraptor kitchen scene from Jurassic Park. There are also psychological thrills, such as when Vecna ominously says, “Found you.”
The final season is not without its emotional hits. One brief moment in the trailer shows Eddie Munson’s gravestone defaced with the words, “Burn in hell.” Eddie was the hero of the Season 4 finale, but he was sacrificed in the season’s final battle. The teaser is a reminder that most of Hawkins still does not know or care about Eddie’s heroic sacrifice in the season finale. His death, which might have been the most heartbreaking of all time, next to Bob Newby’s Season 2 death, will be something that fans and Hawkins will have to process. Eddie’s honor will be restored, but that moment is a long time coming.
The release of Stranger Things Season 5 is already a trending topic among fans. The season is divided into three parts, which many fans will find infuriating. For those hoping to binge-watch the entire series in one go, this won’t be possible. Volume 1 drops November 26, 2025. The second set of episodes will be released on December 25, 2025, on Christmas Day. Season 5 will culminate on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2025, with the finale episode.
